Because recognition runs entirely on your phone, the model has to live on your device. Receipt photos are not uploaded to any server for recognition (unless you choose to save one on the confirmation screen, as the photo for those entries, which then syncs with the cloud) — that is a deliberate design choice, and this one-time download is its cost. Once downloaded, it works offline.
On iPhone you need an iPhone 12 or later running iOS 17 or later. If your iPhone supports Apple Intelligence, Fino uses the built-in system model and no download is needed.
On Android it depends on memory: the smaller model needs 3 GB or more, the more accurate one needs 6 GB or more. Devices that don't qualify can still use every other feature of Fino — only AI photo capture is unavailable.
Results are always shown for you to confirm before anything is saved, and you can edit the merchant, amount and every line item. Creases, glare, small print and faint thermal printing all hurt accuracy — flattening the receipt and using even lighting helps a lot.
Tap the microphone in the app and say something like "lunch 120". On iPhone you can also say "Record with Fino" to Siri, and Siri will ask what you want to record.
iPhone: no. Fino forces on-device recognition and will not start if the device doesn't support it. Recording with Siri is different: listening and speech-to-text are handled by Siri under Apple's privacy policy, and Fino only receives the resulting text.
Android: on-device is preferred, but it cannot be guaranteed. When your device has no local model for the language, the system may fall back to Google's servers — and it does not tell us when it does. If you don't want your audio to have any chance of leaving the device, use manual entry or receipt scanning instead; neither involves voice at all. See the Privacy Policy for details.
No. Every core feature of Fino works without signing in, with your data stored on your phone. Signing in only enables cloud sync (so your data survives a phone change) and shared ledgers.
Sign in on the old phone and sync once, then sign in with the same account on the new phone. If you have never signed in, your data exists only on the old device — sign in and sync before switching.
Fino clears the local data and replaces it with the new account's data, so that the previous account's records cannot leak into the new one. The old account's data remains intact in its own cloud storage and comes back when you sign in again.
Yes. When anyone records an entry, it appears on every member's screen immediately — no pull-to-refresh needed.
Only what you record in that ledger: display name, avatar, amounts, item names, entry notes, and the photos you attach to entries. Your personal categories and personal ledger are never visible to them.
In the app: Settings tab → scroll to the bottom → Delete Account. It runs immediately after identity confirmation, usually within seconds. Full details in Account and Data Deletion.
Uninstall Fino from the device. This does not affect your data in the cloud.
No. Fino is free — no subscriptions, no in-app purchases, no ads, and no analytics, advertising or tracking SDKs of any kind.
Bug reports, feature requests and privacy-related requests all go to liokhgf@gmail.com.
When reporting a problem, including your device model, OS version and Fino version (at the bottom of the Settings tab) plus the steps that led to it helps enormously.
